Description

This 3 core round mains cable uses 1.5mm² conductors (48 strands of 0.2mm copper per core) inside a white PVC outer sheath measuring 8.7mm diameter. Each 100m reel carries live, neutral and earth cores rated to 15A maximum current, suitable for connecting fixed appliances, pendant lights, and low-load portable equipment to UK mains circuits.

Designed for residential, commercial and light industrial installation, the cable complies with BSI BS6500 and VDE standards for flexible mains wiring. The 1.5mm² cross-sectional area handles circuits up to 15A, making it appropriate for lighting circuits, small kitchen appliances, and extension leads where flexibility is needed. The round profile runs cleanly through conduit, trunking and behind skirting boards without the twisting issues common with flat cable.

The white PVC sheath provides basic mechanical protection and insulation to 300/500V rating, while remaining flexible enough for hand-routing around corners and through tight spaces. The 100m reel length suits installation contractors and electrical wholesalers who need continuous runs without joins, reducing labour time on larger jobs compared to shorter pre-cut lengths.

Frequently Asked

What applications is 1.5mm² 3 core cable suitable for?

This cable handles lighting circuits, small fixed appliances (table lamps, TVs, kitchen equipment under 15A load), and extension leads. It is not rated for high-draw appliances like ovens, electric showers or immersion heaters, which require thicker cable (typically 2.5mm² or higher).

Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?

The white PVC sheath provides basic protection against moisture and abrasion, but this is not an armoured or UV-stabilised outdoor cable. For external installation, the cable must be run inside conduit or trunking rated for outdoor use, or replaced with a cable specifically designed for direct burial or UV exposure.

Does it comply with UK wiring regulations?

Yes. The cable meets BSI BS6500 and VDE standards, which are the recognised approvals for flexible mains cable in the UK and Europe. Installation must still comply with BS7671 (18th Edition wiring regulations), including correct circuit protection, cable routing and termination.

What's the difference between round and flat 3 core cable?

Round cable (like this) has a circular cross-section that runs more easily through conduit and around tight bends without twisting. Flat cable has an oval profile that sits flatter against walls and under carpets, but can twist when pulled through conduit. Round cable is generally preferred for concealed runs and conduit installation.
