Description

Two flexible LED strips, 50cm each, run along the back of a television and throw colour onto the wall behind it. Together they draw 3.2W and give 195 lumens, which is accent light rather than room light: enough to lift a wall, not enough to read by. The light is RGB colour changing rather than a fixed white, so the same pair can glow warm red one evening and cool blue the next. A handheld remote sets the colour and carries a plain white setting alongside them, and the lead has an inline switch so the strips can be turned off at the cable.

Two 50cm strips give a metre of run in total, so most people fit them along two edges of the screen, top and bottom or down both sides, rather than framing all four. Behind a living room television is the obvious home, and the same idea works behind a bedroom set, a desk monitor, or under a shelf to light the wall above it. Where a screen is watched in a dim room, a lit wall behind it softens the jump from bright picture to dark surround.

Power comes over USB, so there is no driver or plug-in transformer to hide: a spare USB socket on the television will run it, and where that socket switches with the set, the strips switch with it.
