Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate toggle switch module is a single-module grid component designed for 3-way switching installations within the Curved Edge Grid system. The module provides an intermediate switching position between two 2-way switches, allowing a single light or circuit to be controlled from three separate locations. Rated at 20AX double-pole, the module handles lighting loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains.
This module is designed for residential, hospitality and commercial installations where corridor lighting, stairwell lighting or large room circuits need control from three points. The module clips into Curved Edge Grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front, meaning the frame is fixed to the back box first and modules are then clipped in place without removing the frame. This makes reconfiguration or replacement faster than traditional single-gang switches.
The white thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, making the module suitable for healthcare, education and food preparation environments where surface hygiene matters. The captive terminal design prevents loose terminal screws during wiring, and the 35mm minimum back box depth allows installation in standard cavity wall depths. The module measures 25mm wide (one grid space) and projects 15mm from the mounting frame once clipped in.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch used for?
An intermediate switch sits between two 2-way switches to create 3-way switching, allowing a single light or circuit to be controlled from three separate locations. Common applications include long corridors, staircases with three landings, and large rooms with multiple entry points.
What mounting frame does this module require?
This module is compatible only with Knightsbridge Curved Edge Grid mounting frames, sold separately. The module clips into the frame from the front after the frame is fixed to the back box. It will not fit standard single-gang switch plates or other grid systems.
What back box depth is needed?
A 35mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. The module itself projects 15mm from the mounting frame once clipped in place.
What does the 20AX rating mean?
20AX indicates the module can switch inductive loads (motors, transformers) up to 20A and resistive loads (incandescent bulbs, heaters) beyond that. For typical lighting circuits this translates to approximately 4,600W on 230V mains, far exceeding most domestic lighting requirements.
