Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate switch module is a single-width grid module designed for use with Knightsbridge curved edge grid systems. The module provides intermediate switching capability (the middle position in a three-way lighting circuit) rated at 20A, allowing a single light to be controlled from three or more locations when paired with two 2-way switches.

Grid systems allow multiple switch and socket modules to be assembled side-by-side within a single faceplate, making them ideal for commercial installations, multi-room lighting control in residential properties, and anywhere a compact bank of controls is needed without fitting multiple separate switches. This intermediate module occupies 25mm of width and can be combined with other Knightsbridge curved edge grid modules to build custom configurations. The module fits into grid frames designed for 35mm or deeper back boxes.

The white thermoset resin construction carries IP20 ingress protection and has been tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial properties, making it suitable for healthcare, hospitality and public-space installation where hygiene standards are higher. The curved edge profile matches the design language of Knightsbridge's curved edge switches and sockets range, giving visual consistency when grid modules and standalone switches are used on the same wall. Knightsbridge backs this module with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is an intermediate switch used for?

An intermediate switch allows a single light to be controlled from three or more locations. It sits between two 2-way switches in a circuit — for example, controlling a landing light from the ground floor, first floor and second floor in a three-storey house.

What grid frame does this fit?

This module is designed for Knightsbridge curved edge grid frames only. It will not fit other manufacturers' grid systems or standard faceplates. The module occupies one grid space (25mm width) and can be combined with other curved edge grid modules.

What back box depth is needed?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The module itself has a recessed depth of 20mm, with the remaining space needed for wiring and connections.

What does the 20AX rating mean?

20AX means the switch is rated for 20 amps on 230V mains, handling loads up to 4,600W. The 'X' denotes enhanced arc-suppression contacts, making it suitable for inductive loads such as fluorescent fittings and LED drivers.
