Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate switch module provides switching control from three or more locations within a Knightsbridge Grid system installation. The module clips into compatible grid mounting frames from the front, allowing the antique brass rocker to be fitted or removed without disturbing back-box wiring.

Intermediate switching is used where a single lighting circuit needs control points at three or more positions — typically in long hallways, stairwells with multiple landings, or large open-plan rooms with entry points at opposite ends. The 20AX rating handles standard residential lighting loads up to 4,600W on 230V circuits, covering most multi-bulb pendant, downlight and spotlight configurations.

The module body is constructed from ABS plastic with steel contact terminals, and the antique brass finish on the rocker provides a warm, aged-metal tone with slight tonal variation and a low-sheen surface. The module requires a 35mm minimum back box depth and fits Knightsbridge grid frames in 1-gang through to 6-gang configurations, allowing multiple switches, sockets and data modules to be combined in a single faceplate.

Intermediate switching allows control of a single lighting circuit from three or more locations. It sits between two-way switches at either end of the circuit. Common applications include long hallways, staircases with multiple floors, and large rooms with entry points at opposite ends.

What grid frame does this module fit?

The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, sold separately. Frames are available in 1-gang through to 6-gang configurations in matching antique brass and other finishes, allowing multiple modules to be combined in a single faceplate.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. The module projects 7mm from the front of the frame once clipped in, with an additional 18.7mm recessed depth behind the frame.

Can the rocker be removed for redecorating?

Yes. The module clips into the grid frame from the front, so it can be removed and refitted without disturbing the wiring. This allows painting around the frame or swapping the module for a different finish within the same grid system.
