20AX Intermediate Grid Toggle Switch Module - Black Nickel

This Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate toggle switch module provides three-way or multi-point switching control for lighting circuits rated up to 20A. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid frames (sold separately), allowing it to be combined with other grid modules to create custom switch and socket configurations. The black nickel finish on the toggle dolly and surround gives a dark, semi-reflective metallic appearance.

Intermediate switches are used where a lighting circuit needs to be controlled from three or more locations. They sit between two standard two-way switches in the circuit, allowing any switch in the sequence to turn the light on or off regardless of the position of the other switches. This makes them common in hallways, staircases and large rooms where multiple entry points need independent control of the same lighting.

The module measures 24.8mm wide and 56.3mm tall, fitting a single grid position within Knightsbridge's modular grid system. The steel and ABS construction houses the switching mechanism behind the toggle, which projects 20.5mm from the front of the frame once clipped in. The 35mm minimum back box depth requirement allows installation in standard UK back boxes. The black nickel finish pairs with other black nickel grid modules or can be mixed with polished chrome, brushed chrome or brass finishes within the same grid frame.

What is an intermediate switch and when do I need one?

An intermediate switch allows control of a lighting circuit from three or more locations. If you already have two-way switches at either end of a hallway or staircase and need to add a third switching point in the middle, you need an intermediate. It sits between the two existing two-way switches in the circuit.

Does this module include a frame?

No. This is the toggle switch module only. It clips into Knightsbridge grid frames, which are sold separately. You will need to select a grid frame in the appropriate size (1-gang, 2-gang, etc.) and finish to match or complement this module.

Can I mix this with other grid modules?

Yes. Knightsbridge grid modules are designed to be mixed and matched. You can combine this black nickel toggle with other black nickel switches, sockets, dimmers or USB modules within the same grid frame, or mix finishes for contrast.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. This is deeper than the module itself because the back box must accommodate the wiring connections and the depth of the grid frame that holds the module.
