Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate grid toggle switch module is a single-width grid component designed for multi-way lighting control systems, finished in antique brass with a tactile toggle dolly. Intermediate switches sit between two-way switches in circuits controlling a single lighting circuit from three or more locations, making this module suited to hallways, staircases and large rooms with multiple entry points.

The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front without removing the frame from the wall, allowing switches to be added or reconfigured without disturbing existing wiring. Each module occupies one grid position in the frame, so a 2-gang frame can house two modules, a 3-gang frame three modules, and so on. The 20AX rating handles resistive loads up to 4,600W on 230V, covering most domestic and commercial lighting circuits including high-wattage halogen downlight arrays.

The antique brass finish has a brushed surface with darker patina in the recesses, giving a warm aged-metal appearance that pairs with traditional, heritage and warm-toned interiors. The toggle dolly itself is steel with the antique brass plating applied, and the module body is ABS plastic in a matching tone. The 35mm minimum back box depth requirement is standard for grid systems and fits most UK single/double back boxes.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between intermediate and two-way switching?

Two-way switches are used in pairs to control a single light from two locations. Intermediate switches are added between them when you need control from three or more locations. For example, a staircase with switches at ground floor, first floor landing and second floor landing would use two two-way switches (at each end) and one intermediate (in the middle).

What mounting frame does this module need?

This module requires a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame, sold separately. The frame fixes to a 35mm minimum back box and provides the clip-in grid positions. Single, double, triple and quad frames are available in matching antique brass finish.

Can I mix module finishes in the same frame?

Technically yes, but for visual consistency most users choose modules in the same finish as the mounting frame. Knightsbridge grid modules are available in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white.

What does the 20AX rating mean?

20AX means the module is rated for 20 amps on resistive loads (such as incandescent or halogen lighting), which equates to 4,600W at 230V. This is higher than the standard 10AX rating on most domestic light switches and covers high-load lighting circuits.
