What is a grid switch and how does it work?

Grid switches are modular electrical components that clip into a separate mounting frame to create custom switch configurations. You buy individual switch modules (like this toggle), dimmer modules, socket modules, and blanking plates, then clip them into a grid frame to build a 2-gang, 3-gang, 4-gang or larger wall plate tailored to the room's wiring needs. The frame is sold separately.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed behind the grid frame. The module itself projects 20.5mm from the frame once installed, so total wall-to-faceplate projection depends on the frame design used.

What does 2-way SP mean?

2-way means the switch can be wired to control the same light from two different positions (e.g. top and bottom of stairs). SP means single-pole, so the switch breaks only the live conductor rather than both live and neutral as a DP (double-pole) switch would.
