Description

The Knightsbridge 20A junction box houses four brass terminals inside a 59mm diameter thermoset resin casing finished in black. The junction box is rated for circuits up to 20A at 230V 50Hz and carries IP20 ingress protection, making it suitable for dry indoor locations where cable runs need to be split, joined or branched.

Designed for residential and light commercial installations, the box fits into ceiling voids, under floors, and behind partition walls where lighting circuits or power circuits need junction points. The four-terminal layout allows for ring final circuits or radial circuits to be looped through, with each terminal accepting multiple cable cores. Knockout entries around the perimeter of the base allow cables to enter from multiple directions, simplifying installation where cable runs approach from different angles.

The thermoset resin casing provides impact resistance and heat resistance superior to standard thermoplastic, making the junction box suitable for installations where cables may carry sustained load currents close to the 20A rating. The 25mm projection from the mounting surface keeps the overall depth compact enough to fit into typical ceiling void depths and stud wall cavities. The black finish makes the box less visible when installed in loft spaces or industrial settings where exposed wiring is acceptable.

What depth of void is needed to install this junction box?

The junction box has a 25mm projection from the mounting surface. Including clearance for cable entry and bending radius, a minimum void depth of 50mm is recommended for comfortable installation.

Can this be used in a bathroom or outdoor location?

No. The IP20 rating means the junction box is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but has no moisture protection. It must be installed in dry indoor locations only, away from zones 1 and 2 in bathrooms.

What cable size do the terminals accept?

Knightsbridge 20A junction boxes typically accept cable cores up to 4mm² or 6mm² depending on the specific terminal design. Refer to the specification sheet in the Downloads tab for the exact cable capacity of this model.

Does the box need to be accessible after installation?

Yes. Under BS 7671 wiring regulations, all junction boxes must remain accessible for inspection, testing and maintenance unless they are maintenance-free connectors. The box should not be buried in plaster or covered by fixed building fabric.
