Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch with neon indicator is a white square edge plate designed for controlling fixed appliances rated up to 20A, such as immersion heaters, storage heaters and other high-load equipment. The red neon indicator above the rocker switch glows when the circuit is live, providing a visual confirmation of operational status without needing to test the appliance.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the switch uses double pole switching to isolate both live and neutral lines when turned off, giving an extra margin of safety for high-draw circuits. The flex outlet at the base of the switch allows cable to exit directly downward, making it suitable for surface-mounted or flush-mounted installations where the flex run continues below the switch rather than back into the wall.

The 9mm thermoset resin plate is treated with anti-microbial additives tested to ISO 22196:2011, inhibiting bacterial growth on the switch surface in environments where hygiene is a consideration, such as kitchens, bathrooms and care facilities. The white square edge profile gives a clean, neutral finish that sits flush with the wall and pairs with traditional residential wiring accessories. The 86mm square footprint fits standard UK single-gang back boxes with a 25mm minimum depth.

The 20A rating makes it suitable for immersion heaters, storage heaters, panel heaters and other fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W on a 230V circuit. It is not designed for portable appliances or lighting circuits.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon above the rocker glows when the switch is in the 'on' position and the circuit is live. This provides a visual confirmation that the appliance is receiving power without needing to check the appliance itself.

What is the flex outlet for?

The flex outlet at the base of the switch allows cable to exit directly downward, which is useful when the appliance cable runs down the wall rather than back into the wall cavity. This is common in surface-mounted installations or when retrofitting a switch to existing wiring.

Does the anti-microbial treatment wear off?

The anti-microbial additive is incorporated into the thermoset resin during manufacture, not applied as a surface coating, so it remains effective for the life of the product. Testing to ISO 22196:2011 confirms bacterial growth inhibition on the material.
