Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch provides double-pole switching for fixed high-power appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters and storage heaters, rated to 4,600W at 230V. The matt black rounded-edge faceplate is made from premium-grade steel with a matching matt black metal rocker, and includes a red neon indicator above the rocker to show when the circuit is live.

Designed for kitchen, utility room and bathroom installation where a dedicated 20A circuit is required by Building Regulations, the double-pole operation isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off. The neon indicator allows occupants to verify at a glance whether an appliance circuit is energised, which is particularly useful for immersion heaters and other appliances that operate out of sight. The switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals for cable connection.

The rounded-edge design has gently curved corners rather than the sharp 90-degree edges of traditional flat-plate switches, giving a softer profile against the wall. The matt black finish provides a low-reflectance surface that pairs with contemporary matt black taps, door furniture and kitchen appliances. A built-in gasket between the faceplate and wall improves the seal and reduces the risk of dust ingress. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What appliances require a 20A DP switch?

Water heaters, immersion heaters, storage heaters and other fixed appliances drawing between 13A and 20A typically require a dedicated 20A double-pole switch on a separate circuit. Building Regulations often mandate DP switching for immersion heaters to allow safe isolation.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator above the rocker illuminates when the switch is in the 'on' position and the circuit is live. This allows occupants to verify at a glance whether an appliance such as an immersion heater is currently powered, which is useful for appliances that operate out of sight.

What is the difference between rounded edge and flat plate?

Rounded-edge switches have gently curved corners and a slightly raised profile, giving a softer appearance than traditional flat-plate switches with sharp 90-degree edges. The rounded-edge style is popular in contemporary interiors alongside other curved-edge fixtures.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations. In bathrooms, 20A switches must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations, typically at least 600mm from a bath or shower enclosure, or outside the bathroom entirely.
