Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch is designed for fixed appliances including water heaters, storage heaters and kitchen extraction units requiring higher current ratings than standard lighting circuits. The white square edge 9mm plate is made from thermoset resin with an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on frequently-touched surfaces.

Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is off, providing additional safety for high-draw appliances. The switch is rated at 20A on 230V 50Hz mains, handling loads up to 4,600W. The flex outlet at the base of the switch allows the appliance cable to exit downwards through the mounting box, keeping cabling concealed and reducing strain on the terminal connections.

The square edge profile sits flush to the wall with a 9mm projection from the mounting surface. The plate includes screw cap covers that conceal the fixing screws once installation is complete, giving a cleaner finish than exposed screw heads. The switch requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and includes an earth terminal for safe connection to the building's earthing system.

Certified to EN 60669-1 and backed by a 25-year warranty, the switch is built for residential, hospitality and light commercial installation where hygiene and durability are priorities. The white finish pairs with standard white wall plates and sockets across the Knightsbridge Square Edge range.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is this switch suitable for?

The 20A rating makes this switch suitable for fixed appliances including immersion heaters, storage heaters, kitchen extraction units and other high-draw equipment requiring more current than standard 10A lighting switches can handle. It is not suitable for socket outlets or portable appliances.

What does double pole switching mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, whereas single pole switches only isolate the live conductor. This provides additional safety for high-power appliances by completely disconnecting them from the mains supply.

What is the anti-microbial coating?

The white thermoset resin plate includes an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, which reduces bacterial growth on the switch surface. This is particularly useful in kitchens, bathrooms and healthcare environments where hygiene is a priority.

Can this be installed in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means this switch is suitable for indoor use but not for zones within bathrooms that require IP44 or higher protection. It can be installed outside bathroom zones where water spray is not a risk, subject to compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
