Description

The Knightsbridge 2-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer switch controls two independent lighting circuits from 10-200W each (5-150W LED), using trailing-edge or leading-edge dimming modes selectable via the front control knob. The brushed chrome faceplate measures 89mm square with a square-edge profile and a 10.5mm projection from the wall once fitted.

Designed for controlling dimmable LED, halogen and incandescent lamps in residential and commercial settings, the dimmer works in 2-way configurations where a single circuit is controlled from two locations (e.g. top and bottom of stairs, both ends of a hallway). Each gang operates independently via a rotary knob that pushes to switch on/off and rotates to adjust brightness. The front control knob also provides mode switching, trimming and reset functions without removing the faceplate.

The dimmer ships pre-set to trailing-edge mode, which suits most dimmable LED lamps. Leading-edge mode can be activated for older halogen and incandescent loads. Built-in overload and overheat protection shut down the dimmer if the load exceeds capacity or the internal temperature rises beyond safe limits, while the integrated Inrush Current Limiter (ICL) prevents voltage spikes when switching on high-capacitance LED drivers. The premium-grade steel construction and brushed chrome finish resist tarnishing and fingerprints better than plated plastic alternatives.

Avoid mixing different lamp brands, wattages or technologies (e.g. LED and halogen together) on the same gang, as this can cause flicker, buzzing or uneven dimming response due to differing driver characteristics.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode suits most modern dimmable LED lamps and cuts the rear of the AC waveform, reducing electromagnetic interference and preventing flicker. Leading-edge mode cuts the front of the waveform and works better with older halogen and incandescent lamps. The dimmer ships pre-set to trailing-edge; switch to leading-edge using the front control knob if you experience flicker or buzzing with older lamp types.

Can I mix LED and halogen lamps on the same gang?

No. Mixing different lamp technologies or brands on the same dimmer gang causes uneven dimming, flicker and buzzing because each lamp type has different driver characteristics and responds differently to the dimming waveform. Use the same brand and wattage of lamp across all fittings controlled by a single gang.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. The dimmer module sits inside the back box, with the faceplate adding 10.5mm of projection from the wall.

What does 2-way mean?

2-way means the dimmer can control a lighting circuit from two locations, typically paired with a second 2-way switch at the other end of a staircase or hallway. The dimming function operates from the location where the dimmer is installed; the second location provides on/off switching only.
