Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides a switched and fused connection point for fixed appliances such as boilers, immersion heaters, bathroom extractors and electric towel rails. A red neon indicator above the two rocker switches shows when the circuit is live, making it simple to confirm whether an appliance is receiving power without needing test equipment.

The unit sits on a white thermoset resin plate with rounded edges and a 7mm profile from the wall surface once fitted to a standard 25mm back box. The fused spur accepts a standard 13A cartridge fuse, protecting the downstream appliance circuit separately from the ring main. Certification to BS 1363-2 confirms the unit meets UK wiring regulations for residential and light commercial installation.

The thermoset resin construction resists impact damage better than standard thermoplastic plates and carries antimicrobial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, making the unit suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and care environments where surface hygiene matters. The white finish pairs with standard white switch and socket ranges. Screw cap covers hide the mounting screws once installation is complete, giving a clean finished appearance on the wall.

The unit operates on 230V 50Hz mains with an earth terminal for safe grounding. The IP20 rating limits the unit to dry indoor locations — for bathrooms it should be positioned outside zones 1 and 2, typically more than 600mm from a shower or bath edge. Knightsbridge backs the unit with a 25-year warranty covering manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is this fused spur suitable for?

The 13A rating suits fixed appliances drawing up to 3,000W on 230V mains. Common uses include boilers, immersion heaters, bathroom extractors, electric towel rails, water heaters and kitchen waste disposal units. The switched control and neon indicator make it particularly useful for appliances that need to be isolated for servicing.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator lights when the circuit is live and the switch is in the 'on' position. This confirms power is reaching the connected appliance without needing to check the appliance itself or use test equipment.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating limits the unit to dry indoor locations. In bathrooms it must be positioned outside zones 1 and 2, which typically means more than 600mm horizontally from a bath or shower edge and above the height of any showerhead. Consult Part P of the Building Regulations or a qualified electrician for bathroom positioning.

What fuse does it take?

The unit accepts a standard BS 1362 13A cartridge fuse, the same type used in UK plugs. The fuse rating can be reduced to 3A, 5A or 10A to match the requirements of lower-wattage appliances, providing separate circuit protection from the ring main.
