Description

The Knightsbridge 13A fused spur unit with neon indicator is a switched fused connection unit designed for fixed appliances such as extractor fans, wall-mounted heaters, and water heaters. The unit features a red neon indicator that illuminates when the circuit is live, providing visual confirmation of power status. The white rounded-edge plate is made from thermoset resin with tested anti-microbial properties, making it suited to kitchens, bathrooms and healthcare environments where surface hygiene matters.

Certified to BS 1363-2 and rated at 13A on 230V mains, the unit provides a fused connection point between the ring main and a fixed appliance. The fuse holder is accessed behind the switch plate and accepts a standard 13A fuse cartridge. The unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and includes screw cap covers to conceal the fixing points once installed. The built-in gasket between the plate and back box provides a seal against dust ingress.

The gently contoured 7mm plate has rounded edges rather than sharp corners, giving a softer profile on the wall than traditional square-edge plates. The white thermoset resin finish is cleanable and resistant to discolouration from UV exposure or heat. The earth terminal is present on the rear of the unit, allowing a protective earth connection to be made where the back box is metal.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur unit used for?

Fused spur units are designed for fixed appliances that draw continuous power, such as extractor fans, wall-mounted electric heaters, water heaters, and some kitchen appliances. The fused connection provides overload protection between the ring main and the appliance.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator illuminates when the circuit is live, showing that power is available to the appliance. It does not necessarily mean the appliance is drawing current, only that the fused spur is switched on and the circuit is energised.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 7mm plate projection adds to the overall protrusion from the wall once the unit is fitted.

What are the anti-microbial properties?

The thermoset resin material has been third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial effectiveness. This means the surface resists bacterial growth, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and healthcare settings where hygiene is a priority.
