Description

The Knightsbridge 13A fused spur unit provides switched fused connection to fixed appliances behind a white rounded-edge faceplate with a gently contoured 7mm profile. The unit accepts a standard BS 1362 cartridge fuse (typically 3A or 13A depending on appliance load) and includes screw cap covers that conceal the fixing screws once the faceplate is mounted.

Designed for permanent wiring of appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, washing machines and kitchen appliances, the fused spur removes the need for a plug connection and provides fused protection at the point of connection. The 86mm x 86mm plate fits a standard UK single-gang back box with a minimum depth of 25mm. The rounded edges give a softer profile than square-edge plates, pairing well with contemporary interiors and softer residential environments.

The faceplate is moulded from thermoset resin and carries an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, inhibiting bacterial growth on the surface. This makes the unit suitable for kitchens, bathrooms (where permitted by regulations), healthcare environments and other high-touch applications. The IP20 rating confirms suitability for dry indoor use, and the unit is certified to BS 1363-2 for safety compliance. Knightsbridge backs the unit with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur used for?

Fused spurs provide permanent wired connection to fixed appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, washing machines, dishwashers, electric towel rails and wired kitchen appliances. They eliminate the need for a plug socket and provide fused protection at the point of connection.

What fuse rating should I use?

The fuse rating depends on the appliance load. Most small appliances (extractor fans, towel rails, some lighting circuits) use a 3A fuse. Higher-draw appliances (washing machines, dishwashers) typically use a 13A fuse. Refer to the appliance manufacturer's instructions for the correct rating.

What does the anti-microbial coating do?

The faceplate carries a coating tested to ISO 22196:2011 that inhibits bacterial growth on the surface. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination in high-touch environments such as kitchens, bathrooms and healthcare settings.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the unit is suitable for dry indoor environments only. In bathrooms, fused spurs must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations, typically at least 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower tray.
