Description

The Knightsbridge M9LOCKN is a 13A double-pole socket with key-operated locking and a red neon indicator window showing when the socket is live. The socket features a white outlet aperture against a powder-coated grey steel faceplate, with three mounting lugs on the top edge for surface installation via conduit or cable entry. Two keys are supplied with each unit, allowing the socket to be locked in the off position to prevent unauthorised use.

Designed for controlled-access environments such as hotel corridors, student accommodation, communal laundries, maintenance cupboards and public facilities, the lockable function restricts appliance connection to authorised personnel only. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral conductors when switched off, providing a full disconnection rather than just interrupting the live side. The neon indicator remains visible when the socket is switched on and live, giving a clear visual confirmation of power status from several metres away.

The 142mm x 81mm grey steel faceplate is powder-coated for durability and carries an IP20 rating suitable for dry indoor locations. The 55.1mm body depth accommodates the keylock mechanism behind the faceplate. The three top-mounted lugs accept M3.5 or M4 fixings for surface mounting to a back box, conduit outlet or directly to a wall via wall plugs. The socket is rated at 13A on 230V 50Hz mains and includes an earth terminal for Class I appliances.

Knightsbridge backs this metal-clad socket with a 25-year guarantee, reflecting the premium-grade steel construction and the durability required in high-traffic or semi-industrial environments where plastic faceplates would not survive long-term use.

Frequently Asked

What type of key is used and how many are supplied?

The socket includes two keys specific to the locking mechanism. The keylock operates a rotary switch that prevents the socket from being turned on when locked, rather than physically blocking the outlet aperture.

Can the socket be locked in the on position?

No. The keylock is designed to lock the socket in the off position only, preventing unauthorised users from switching it on. Once unlocked, the socket operates as a standard switched DP socket.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon window illuminates when the socket is switched on and live. It does not illuminate when the socket is switched off, even if mains power is present at the terminals. This gives a clear visual indication of whether the socket is actively supplying power.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

No. The IP20 rating means the socket is designed for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor or wet-location use, look for a lockable socket with IP55 or IP66 rating.
