Description

The Knightsbridge PM9002 is a 13A 2-gang switched socket with dual USB-A and USB-C charging ports, finished in anthracite with white outboard rockers designed to meet Part M Building Regulations for accessible housing and public buildings. The white rockers sit proud of the anthracite front plate, creating the visual contrast required under Part M to assist users with impaired vision or motor control. The socket delivers 5V DC at 4.8A shared output across both USB ports.

Part M compliance makes this socket suitable for residential care facilities, local authority housing, accessible bathrooms, hotel rooms and offices where Building Regulations require accessible electrical fittings. The outboard rockers are larger than standard switch rockers and positioned for easier operation by users with limited dexterity. The anthracite faceplate with white rockers provides the minimum 30-point Munsell contrast value specified in Part M guidance.

The faceplate is moulded from thermoset resin with 3rd-party-tested anti-microbial properties certified to ISO 22196:2011, inhibiting bacterial growth on the surface in high-touch environments. The socket has top-access captive terminals, allowing cables to be inserted from above rather than from the sides, which simplifies retrofitting into existing back boxes. Twin earth terminals provide additional earthing options for metal back boxes or daisy-chained circuits. The socket requires a 25-35mm back box depth depending on cable size and termination method.

Frequently Asked

What does Part M compliant mean?

Part M of the UK Building Regulations sets standards for accessibility in new buildings and major refurbishments. This socket meets Part M requirements through its white outboard rockers that contrast visually with the anthracite front plate, making the switches easier to locate and operate for users with impaired vision or reduced manual dexterity.

What is the USB charging output?

The socket provides dual USB charging at 5V DC with a total shared output of 4.8A across both the USB-A and USB-C ports. The charging rate adjusts automatically depending on the devices connected.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm back box depth is needed for typical installations with standard cable sizes. If multiple cables or larger conductor sizes are being terminated, a 35mm depth back box provides additional space for easier installation.

What are the anti-microbial properties?

The thermoset resin construction has been tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial efficacy. This means the material inhibits bacterial growth on the faceplate surface, which is useful in healthcare settings, care homes, schools and other high-touch environments where hygiene is a priority.
