The Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang SP switched socket adds two USB-A charging ports behind a brushed chrome square edge faceplate with a black insert. The single-pole switching disconnects the live line when the socket is switched off, providing control over power to both outlets. The dual USB-A ports share a 5V 2.4A output, suitable for charging phones, tablets and other USB-powered devices.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the socket fits a standard 25-35mm back box depth depending on cable run and wiring configuration. The square edge faceplate sits flush against the wall with a built-in gasket that fills the gap between the plate and the mounting box, preventing debris and dust ingress. The metal rockers match the brushed chrome finish and give tactile feedback when operated.

The brushed chrome finish provides a contemporary metallic surface that resists fingerprints better than polished chrome and pairs well with modern kitchens, bathrooms and office spaces. The black insert behind the faceplate hides the back of the cover plate and gives a defined edge to each outlet aperture. The socket is BS1363-2 certified and carries IP20 rating for dry indoor use.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum of 25mm back box depth is needed for basic installation. If the wiring run is complex or multiple cables enter the box, a 35mm depth provides more working space and ensures safe clearance behind the socket.

What is the USB charging output?

The two USB-A ports share a combined output of 5V DC 2.4A. When both ports are in use, the current is distributed between the connected devices. This output is suitable for standard phone and tablet charging but not for fast-charge protocols.

What is single-pole switching?

Single-pole (SP) switching disconnects the live line only when the socket is switched off, leaving the neutral connected. This differs from double-pole (DP) switching which isolates both live and neutral. SP switching is acceptable for most residential applications and is the standard for UK sockets.

Can the faceplate be removed for redecorating?

The square edge faceplate is fixed with visible screws at each corner. The faceplate can be removed for painting around the socket and refitted without disturbing the wiring, though screws will remain visible once reinstalled.
