Description

The Knightsbridge PM9001N is a 13A 2-gang double-pole switched socket with outboard rockers, neon indicators and twin earth terminals in an anthracite thermoset resin faceplate. The outboard rocker switches sit proud of the main faceplate, making them easier to operate for users with limited dexterity or visual impairment, while the red neon indicators show at a glance which outlet is live.

Designed to meet Building Regulations Part M for accessible dwellings, the socket provides high visual contrast between the anthracite faceplate, white rocker switches and red neons, exceeding the recommended Light Reflectance Value (LRV) difference for visibility. The twin earth terminals allow secure connections in circuits requiring separate earths for each outlet, common in commercial and healthcare installations. The socket fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth with top-access captive terminals for faster installation.

The thermoset resin construction includes independently tested anti-microbial properties certified to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial surface contamination in high-touch environments such as care homes, hospitals, schools and offices. The curved edge profile softens the faceplate geometry without compromising the IP20 rating. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the socket is off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for high-draw appliances.

Frequently Asked

What does Part M compliance mean?

Part M of the UK Building Regulations sets accessibility standards for new dwellings and refurbishments. This socket meets Part M through high visual contrast between faceplate and switches, outboard rockers for easier operation, and neon indicators for visibility. It is suitable for care homes, accessible housing, healthcare facilities and public buildings.

What are outboard rockers?

Outboard rockers are switches that sit proud of the main faceplate rather than recessed into it. This makes them easier to locate by touch and operate with reduced hand strength or dexterity, improving accessibility for elderly users and those with motor impairments.

What do the neon indicators show?

The red neon indicators illuminate when the socket is switched on and live. This provides a visual confirmation of power status without needing to test with a plug or voltage tester, reducing the risk of accidental connection to live outlets.

What are twin earth terminals used for?

Twin earth terminals allow separate earth connections for each outlet gang. This is required in some commercial and healthcare installations where each outlet must have an independent earth path, and is also useful when daisy-chaining circuits or connecting to two separate ring mains.
