Description

The Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang DP RCD switched socket provides 30mA Type A residual current device protection built into a standard double socket format. The Type A RCD protects against both AC residual currents and pulsating DC leakage currents up to 6mA, covering electronic equipment with switched-mode power supplies that generate DC components during normal operation.

Designed for IT equipment installations, home offices with multiple computing devices, and commercial environments where appliances include electronic control circuits, the socket fits a 35mm minimum depth back box and connects via captive screw terminals. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the socket is turned off. The latching RCD mechanism automatically resets after a power outage without manual intervention, maintaining protection when mains power returns.

The white rounded-edge faceplate measures 86mm high by 146mm wide with 10mm projection from the wall once fitted. Dual earth terminals provide two independent earth connection points, required in some commercial installations. The outboard rocker switches sit outside the socket apertures for easier operation. The thermoset resin construction carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use and is backed by a 2-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between Type A and Type AC RCD?

Type AC RCDs detect AC residual currents only. Type A RCDs detect both AC currents and pulsating DC currents up to 6mA, which are generated by devices with electronic power supplies such as computers, LED drivers, variable-speed tools and modern appliances with control electronics. Type A is the required standard for circuits serving IT equipment under current wiring regulations.

Does the RCD need to be manually reset after a trip?

No. The latching mechanism automatically resets when mains power is restored after an outage. If the RCD trips due to a fault, it must be manually reset using the test/reset button on the faceplate, but power outages do not require manual intervention.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is required due to the additional RCD components housed behind the faceplate. Standard 25mm boxes used for non-RCD sockets will not accommodate this fitting.

Can this replace a standard socket without rewiring?

Yes, provided the existing back box is 35mm deep or greater and the wiring terminates in captive screw terminals. The socket requires live, neutral and earth connections identical to a standard 13A socket. Check the back box depth before ordering.

Free worldwide delivery

Free worldwide delivery on all orders over £99. International orders for third-party brand products may be subject to an additional courier surcharge based on volumetric weight, particularly on larger lighting fixtures — if a surcharge applies, our team will email you with the amount before dispatch and you can proceed or cancel for a full refund. See full delivery terms.

Returns

30-day returns window from delivery. As all our products are electrical or lighting goods, returned items must be inspected and recertified by a qualified electrician before resale — the cost of this inspection (25–40% of the item value) is deducted from your refund. Customers pay return shipping. Made-to-order, special-order and clearance items cannot be returned. See full returns policy.
