Description
The Knightsbridge 13A 1-gang SP switched socket features a 7mm contoured white plate with rounded edges and anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011. The single-pole switch interrupts the live connection when turned off, providing standard on/off control for everyday appliances up to 3,120W at 230V.
Designed for residential and light commercial use, the socket fits standard 25mm minimum depth back boxes and suits living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and offices where simple mains outlets are needed. The rounded edge profile sits slightly proud of the wall surface rather than flush, giving a softer visual line than sharp-edged plates. Screw cap covers conceal the fixing screws once installed, leaving only the white faceplate and switch rocker visible.
The thermoset resin construction resists impact and discolouration better than basic ABS plastics, and the anti-microbial finish reduces bacterial growth on the surface in high-touch environments. ASTA certification to BS 1363-2:2016+A1:2018 confirms compliance with UK wiring accessory standards, and Knightsbridge backs the socket with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What does SP switching mean?
SP stands for single-pole. The switch interrupts the live conductor only when turned off, unlike DP (double-pole) which interrupts both live and neutral. SP switching is standard for most domestic sockets and meets UK wiring regulations for general use.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 25mm back box depth is needed. The 7mm plate projection means the socket sits approximately 32mm from the finished wall surface once installed.
What are the anti-microbial properties?
The white finish is tested to ISO 22196:2011 to reduce bacterial growth on the surface. This is useful in kitchens, bathrooms and shared workspaces where sockets are frequently touched, though it does not replace regular cleaning.
Can screw caps be replaced if lost?
Yes. Knightsbridge supplies replacement screw caps separately if the originals are lost during redecorating. The socket remains functional without them, but the fixing screws will be visible.
