Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX intermediate switch module adds a third switching position to a lighting circuit within a multi-gang curved-edge faceplate. Where a standard two-way switching setup controls a light from two positions, inserting this intermediate module between the two existing switches allows control from three or more points along the same circuit.
Designed for installation in hallways, staircases and landings where lighting needs to be controlled from multiple access points, the module fits Knightsbridge curved-edge grid plates in 2-gang, 3-gang, 4-gang and 6-gang configurations. The white thermoset resin construction is rated at 10AX on 230V mains, handling resistive loads up to 2,300W. The module measures 60mm high by 16mm wide and requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it compatible with shallow-depth installation boxes.
The white finish integrates with existing white grid plates and modules in the same range. Thermoset resin provides better heat dissipation than thermoplastic alternatives, maintaining dimensional stability under sustained electrical load. The module carries IP20 ingress protection for standard indoor dry locations and is certified to EN 60669-1. Anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011 reduce bacterial growth on the surface, which is particularly relevant in high-traffic areas like corridors and stairwells. Knightsbridge backs the module with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between a 2-way switch and an intermediate switch?
A 2-way switch allows control from two positions (e.g. top and bottom of stairs). An intermediate switch sits between two 2-way switches to add a third control position or more. You need two 2-way switches at the start and end of the circuit, with intermediate modules in between for each additional switching point.
What grid plates is this compatible with?
The module fits Knightsbridge curved-edge grid plates in 2-gang, 3-gang, 4-gang and 6-gang configurations. It occupies one module width (16mm) within the plate and clips into the grid frame before the faceplate is fixed to the wall.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. The module itself is 21mm deep but the curved-edge grid frame accommodates this within a 16mm box. Most UK residential installations use 25mm or 35mm boxes, both of which provide adequate clearance.
What does the 25-year warranty cover?
Knightsbridge's 25-year warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover damage from incorrect installation, electrical overload beyond the 10AX rating, or normal wear from use. Warranty claims require proof of purchase and the module must be installed in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
