Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX intermediate switch is designed for three-point light control, where three switches control a single light or circuit. It sits between two 2-way switches to complete the circuit, allowing control from three separate locations such as top and bottom of stairs plus a landing, or multiple entry points in a large open-plan room. The switch carries a 10AX rating, handling loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains.
The screwless faceplate measures 87.5mm square and is constructed from 201 stainless steel finished in antique brass, giving a warm aged-brass tone with darker patina in the brushed grain. The faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The matching antique brass rocker sits flush within the plate aperture, and the built-in gasket behind the faceplate provides an IP20 seal against dust ingress.
The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it compatible with shallow back boxes in stud walls and dry-lining applications. The total projection from the wall once fitted is 8.4mm. The captive terminals secure cable ends without requiring additional connector blocks, and an earth terminal is provided for full circuit safety. Certified to EN 60669-1 and backed by a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch used for?
An intermediate switch is used when three or more switches need to control a single light or circuit. It sits between two 2-way switches to complete the circuit. Common applications include staircases with a landing, long hallways with multiple entry points, or large open-plan rooms where lights need to be controlled from more than two locations.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The switch projects 8.4mm from the wall once fitted, making it suitable for shallow back boxes in stud walls and dry-lining applications.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The antique brass faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this switch style in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
