Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch is a triple-pole isolator designed to control and isolate bathroom extractor fans, utility room fans and other mechanical ventilation systems. The white rounded-edge faceplate sits 7mm proud of the wall surface and carries laser-printed ON/OFF markings and a fan symbol for clear identification.
Installed in bathrooms, utility rooms, commercial washrooms and healthcare facilities, the switch provides a local isolation point for fans, allowing the motor to be safely disconnected from the mains supply during maintenance or replacement. The triple-pole switching disconnects live, neutral and the switched live feed to the fan timer or controller, providing full isolation when in the OFF position. The 10AX rating handles fan motor loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains.
The white thermoset resin construction includes built-in anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface of the switch plate in high-touch environments like bathrooms and clinical settings. The rounded edges soften the visual impact on the wall compared to square-edge plates. Screw cap covers conceal the fixing screws once installed, and the switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it suitable for shallow mounting where standard 25mm boxes cannot be accommodated.

Frequently Asked
What back box depth is required?
The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth. This makes it suitable for shallow mounting applications where a standard 25mm box cannot be fitted, such as dot-and-dab plasterboard walls with limited cavity depth.
What does triple-pole switching mean?
Triple-pole switching disconnects live, neutral and the switched live feed to the fan timer or controller when the switch is in the OFF position. This provides full isolation of the fan circuit for safe maintenance, whereas single-pole switching only breaks the live conductor.
What are the anti-microbial properties?
The thermoset resin material includes additives that reduce bacterial growth on the surface of the switch plate. The properties have been independently tested to ISO 22196:2011 and are particularly useful in bathrooms, healthcare facilities and other high-touch environments where hygiene matters.
Can this be used with a timed fan?
Yes. The switch isolates the entire fan circuit including any timer or controller wired between the switch and the fan motor. When the switch is ON, the fan and timer operate normally. When OFF, both are fully isolated from the mains supply.
