Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides a dedicated triple-pole isolation point for bathroom or utility room extractor fans, allowing the fan to be switched off for maintenance while keeping the lighting circuit live. The polished chrome faceplate measures 85.75mm square with a gently rounded edge profile, and the metal rocker mechanism is rated at 10A on 230V circuits.
Designed for bathrooms, utility rooms and kitchens where extractor fans are wired separately from lighting, the switch fits a standard 16mm minimum back box and carries an IP20 rating suitable for dry zones. The triple-pole configuration breaks live, neutral and the switched live feed to the fan, providing full isolation without affecting the lighting circuit that may share the same consumer unit branch. The engraved 'FAN ISOLATOR' label on the faceplate identifies the switch function at a glance.
The polished chrome finish is applied to premium-grade steel construction, giving a bright reflective surface that pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and bathroom fittings. The rounded edge softens the geometric profile compared to flat-plate designs, making the switch sit more comfortably in rooms with curved sanitaryware or period features. The switch includes an integrated gasket between the faceplate and the mechanism to prevent moisture ingress at the mounting interface, and carries a 25-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked
What is a fan isolator switch used for?
A fan isolator switch allows you to turn off an extractor fan completely for maintenance, cleaning or bulb changes without affecting the lighting circuit. The triple-pole design isolates both live and neutral connections to the fan, meeting regulations for safe isolation in bathrooms and utility rooms.
What back box depth is required?
This switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth. The faceplate adds 7.5mm of projection from the wall once installed, making it one of the slimmer profiles in the Knightsbridge range.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
Yes. The IP20 rating is suitable for bathroom zones outside the immediate shower enclosure or bath area. Fan isolator switches are typically installed near the bathroom door or outside the room entirely, both of which are compliant locations under UK bathroom wiring regulations.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this rounded-edge fan isolator in multiple finishes including brushed chrome, matt black, white, polished brass and antique brass. Use the filters on Niori to find other variants in stock.
