10AX 2-Way Pull Cord Switch - Matt Black

The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-way pull cord switch is a 74mm diameter ceiling-mounted switch in matt black thermoset resin with a 1.5m black braided cord and matching black pull tip. The 10AX rating handles lighting loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, covering most domestic and light commercial lighting circuits including multi-bulb ceiling fittings and bathroom downlight arrays.

Designed for bathrooms, utility rooms, closets and any space where a wall switch is impractical or outside arm's reach, the 1.5m cord length allows the pull tip to hang at a comfortable height for most ceiling installations between 2.4m and 2.7m. The 2-way configuration enables the switch to work in conjunction with a second switch elsewhere in the room, so the same light can be controlled from two locations. The screw terminals accept standard single-core or stranded cable.

The thermoset resin housing resists impact and heat better than standard plastic, and the matt black finish conceals dust and fingerprints more effectively than gloss. The IP20 rating permits installation in bathroom zones 3 and outside, but not in shower enclosures or directly above baths where higher IP ratings are required. The 36mm projection from the ceiling keeps the switch body low-profile once fitted, and the Class II double-insulation means no earth connection to the switch body is needed (though an earth terminal is provided for the circuit continuation).

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP20 rating permits installation in bathroom zone 3 and outside zones (more than 600mm from a bath or shower). It cannot be fitted directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure, where IP44 or higher is required.

What does 2-way mean?

A 2-way switch can work in conjunction with a second switch to control the same light from two locations. If you only need one switch controlling one light, the 2-way configuration still works — you simply wire it as a 1-way and leave one terminal unused.

What load can it handle?

The 10AX rating handles lighting loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains. This covers most domestic lighting circuits including multi-bulb ceiling fittings, downlight arrays and bathroom lighting with multiple GU10 or E27 bulbs.

How is the cord length adjusted?

The cord is fixed at 1.5m and cannot be shortened or lengthened. For ceiling heights between 2.4m and 2.7m the pull tip hangs at a comfortable reach height. If your ceiling is higher or lower, consider whether the tip will be accessible before ordering.
