Description

The Knightsbridge PM3000 is a 10AX 2-gang 2-way switch built to meet Building Regulations Part M for accessible installations. The switch features white rocker plates on an anthracite thermoset front plate, providing a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) contrast of approximately 8.9, which exceeds the Part M requirement for a minimum 30-point difference between switch and plate. This high-contrast design aids visibility for users with partial sight or visual impairment.

Designed for residential care homes, supported living environments, hospitals, schools and public buildings where accessibility standards are mandatory, the switch operates as a standard 2-way fitting, allowing control of a single circuit from two different locations. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W at 230V, suitable for most lighting circuits and low-draw appliances. The curved edge profile sits 7mm proud of the wall once fitted to a 16mm minimum back box, giving a softer visual line than sharp-edged plates.

The thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial surface growth between cleaning cycles. The anthracite finish provides a neutral darker tone that pairs with both light and dark wall colours while maintaining the required visual contrast with the white rocker plates. The switch is fixed with visible screws (screw-fixed, not screwless) and carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked

What does Part M compliant mean?

Part M of the Building Regulations sets standards for accessible design in buildings. This switch meets Part M by providing high visual contrast between the white rocker plates and the anthracite front plate (LRV difference of approximately 8.9), making the switch positions easier to identify for users with visual impairment. Part M compliance is mandatory in care homes, hospitals, supported living and many public buildings.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed. The switch projects 7mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total 23mm clearance from the back box to the outer surface of the rocker plates.

What does 2-way switching mean?

2-way switching allows the same light or circuit to be controlled from two different switch locations. Common applications include controlling a landing light from both upstairs and downstairs, or controlling a bedroom light from both the door and the bedside. This switch provides two separate 2-way circuits in a single 2-gang plate.

What are the anti-microbial properties?

The thermoset resin construction contains additives that reduce bacterial growth on the surface. The material has been tested to ISO 22196:2011 by independent laboratories. This does not replace regular cleaning but reduces bacterial colonisation between cleaning cycles, which is useful in healthcare, care home and food preparation environments.
