Description

The Knightsbridge SN8290 is a 10AX 1-way pull cord switch in white thermoset resin, supplied with a 1.7m braided pull cord. The switch mounts to a standard ceiling back box and operates single-circuit lighting via a pull-to-toggle mechanism, each pull alternating between on and off.

Designed for bathrooms, utility rooms, loft spaces and garages where a wall-mounted switch is impractical or would breach wiring regulations, the pull cord allows switching from below the ceiling rose without touching the electrical fitting itself. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor locations and Zone 3 bathroom areas (600mm+ from bath/shower enclosures). The 76mm diameter ceiling rose sits flush once fitted and the 43mm projection keeps the assembly compact.

The thermoset resin construction resists heat and mechanical impact better than standard thermoplastics, giving the switch durability in high-use settings. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, covering most domestic lighting circuits including multi-bulb fittings and LED arrays. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 25-year warranty from Knightsbridge.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP20 rating suits Zone 3 bathroom areas, which are 600mm or more from the edge of a bath or shower enclosure. It cannot be installed in Zone 0, 1 or 2 (inside or immediately adjacent to baths and showers) without a higher IP-rated enclosure.

What back box is needed?

The switch mounts to a standard UK ceiling back box with 60.3mm fixing centres. The 76mm diameter rose covers most standard ceiling roses once fitted.

What load does 10AX support?

10AX at 230V mains supports loads up to 2,300W, which covers most domestic lighting circuits including multi-bulb chandeliers, LED strip arrays and halogen downlight clusters.

Can the cord length be adjusted?

The cord is supplied at 1.7m and can be shortened on installation by knotting or cutting to the desired drop. Replacement cords are available separately if the original becomes worn.
