Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang double pole switch isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing safer control for high-load appliances such as immersion heaters, extractor fans and electric showers. The antique brass screwless faceplate clips onto a separate sub-frame, hiding all fixings behind the 87.5mm square plate.
Double pole switching is recommended for appliances where both conductors need to be isolated for maintenance or safety compliance, and is often specified in bathrooms, utility rooms and kitchens where water is present. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, making it suitable for most domestic fixed appliances excluding electric cookers and instantaneous water heaters requiring higher-rated isolators.
The antique brass finish is a warm, aged metallic tone that sits between polished brass and oil-rubbed bronze, presenting as a soft gold with subtle darkening in the recessed areas. The 201 stainless steel base plate is electroplated to achieve the antique brass appearance, then sealed to resist tarnishing. The screwless design requires a minimum 16mm back box depth and adds 8.4mm wall projection once installed.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between single pole and double pole switching?
Single pole switches break only the live conductor. Double pole switches break both live and neutral, providing full isolation of the circuit. DP switching is safer for appliances where both conductors need to be isolated for maintenance, and is often required by building regulations for bathroom installations and high-load appliances.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 8.4mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 23mm from the back of the box to the front of the rocker.
What load can a 10AX switch handle?
10AX is rated at 10 amps on 230V mains, which equals approximately 2,300W maximum load. This suits immersion heaters, extractor fans, electric showers up to 9kW (on their own circuit), and similar fixed appliances. It is not suitable for electric cookers or instantaneous water heaters requiring higher-rated isolators.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The antique brass cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
