Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch provides two-way lighting control from a single wall position in a matt black rounded-edge metal faceplate. The 10AX rating handles lighting loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, making it suitable for both individual light fittings and multi-bulb circuits where control is needed from two separate locations in the same room.

Designed for residential and commercial installation, the switch fits a shallow 16mm minimum back box depth, making it compatible with both new builds and retrofit installations where stud wall depth is limited. The two-way configuration pairs with a matching switch elsewhere in the room to control the same light circuit from two positions — common in hallways, stairwells, and bedrooms where control is needed at both entry and exit points. The rocker mechanism operates with a defined click action that gives clear on/off feedback.

The matt black finish is a low-sheen powder coat on premium-grade steel, creating a flat surface that minimises fingerprints and light reflections. The rounded edge profile softens the transition between the faceplate and the wall, giving a less angular appearance than sharp-edged alternatives. The matching black rocker sits flush with the plate when in the off position and projects 3mm when switched on. Certified to EN 60669-1 and carrying an IP20 rating for indoor dry locations.

Frequently Asked

What is a 2-way switch used for?

A 2-way switch allows the same light circuit to be controlled from two separate wall positions. This is typically used in hallways, stairwells and larger rooms where you need to turn the light on or off from either end of the space. It requires two 2-way switches wired to the same circuit.

What back box depth is required?

The switch requires a minimum mounting box depth of 16mm. This shallow depth makes it suitable for both standard back boxes and slimline installations in stud walls or where cavity depth is restricted.

What does 10AX rating mean?

10AX means the switch is rated for 10 amps on alternating current, handling loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains supply. This is sufficient for most domestic and commercial lighting circuits including multi-bulb fittings.

Is the matt black finish durable?

The matt black finish is a powder-coated steel surface that resists everyday handling and minimises visible fingerprints compared to gloss finishes. For best results, clean with a dry microfibre cloth rather than chemical sprays.
