Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch features a brushed brass flat plate with a matching brushed brass rocker, sitting just 2.5mm proud of the wall surface. Rated at 10 amps, the switch handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W on 230V mains and is built for 2-way wiring configurations where a single light is controlled from two separate switch positions.

Designed for residential and commercial installation in hallways, staircases, through-lounges and bedrooms where dual-entrance control is needed, the switch fits a minimum 16mm back box depth and uses a gasket seal behind the faceplate to sit flush against the wall without visible gaps. The flat plate design uses traditional screw fixings rather than a screwless cover system, with two visible brass-finished screws at the top and bottom edges of the plate.

The premium-grade steel construction carries a 25-year warranty and meets EN 60669-1 safety certification for UK residential and commercial wiring. The brushed finish on the brass softens reflections and pairs with warm-toned metallics in traditional, transitional and warm contemporary interiors. The rocker mechanism is firm and tactile, providing clear on/off feedback without requiring hard pressure.

What does 2-way wiring mean?

A 2-way switch allows a single light to be controlled from two separate switch positions, typically at opposite ends of a hallway, staircase or room. This switch connects to a second 2-way switch via a 3-core cable, enabling either switch to turn the light on or off regardless of the other switch's position.

What's the difference between flat plate and screwless?

This flat plate design uses two visible screws at the top and bottom edges to fix the faceplate to the back box. Knightsbridge also produces screwless variants where a cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame, hiding all fixings. The flat plate style is traditional and lower-cost; screwless is cleaner but requires a deeper back box.

Can this switch be used on a single-switch lighting circuit?

Yes. The 2-way wiring capability is backward-compatible with 1-way circuits. If you're only controlling the light from one position, wire the switch using the common (COM) and L1 terminals, leaving L2 unused.
