Description

The Knightsbridge 24DC100D is a 100W constant voltage LED driver that converts 230V mains to 24V DC output for LED strip lighting, tape lights and other 24V LED installations. The driver delivers a fixed voltage rather than regulating current, making it suitable for runs of LED tape where the tape itself contains current-limiting resistors.

Designed for internal installations in homes, offices, retail and hospitality environments, the driver supports dimming when paired with most trailing-edge (reverse-phase) dimmer switches. The IP20 rating means it must be installed in dry locations such as above ceilings, inside joinery or within electrical enclosures where it will not be exposed to moisture. The 210mm x 67mm x 34mm housing fits into ceiling voids and cabinet plinths commonly found in UK residential and commercial builds.

The driver includes open-circuit, short-circuit, overload and over-temperature protections that shut down output if a fault is detected, preventing damage to both the driver and the connected LED load. The Class II (double-insulated) construction means no earth connection is required, simplifying installation in older properties or retrofit scenarios where earthing may be inconsistent. The white ABS housing with blue end caps provides clear visual identification during installation and maintenance.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between constant voltage and constant current drivers?

Constant voltage drivers like the 24DC100D provide a fixed 24V output and are designed for LED products that regulate their own current internally, such as most LED tape and strip lighting. Constant current drivers regulate the current flowing through the LEDs and are used for LED fixtures that require current control, such as downlights and spotlight modules.

Can this be dimmed with any dimmer switch?

The driver is compatible with most trailing-edge (reverse-phase) dimmer switches. Leading-edge dimmers are not recommended and may cause flickering, buzzing or failure to dim smoothly. Check the dimmer manufacturer's compatibility list or test the combination before final installation.

Where can the driver be installed?

The IP20 rating means the driver must be installed in dry, dust-free locations such as ceiling voids, behind false walls, inside joinery or within electrical enclosures. It cannot be installed in bathrooms, kitchens near sinks, outdoors or any location where it may be exposed to moisture or condensation.

What length of LED tape can the driver power?

The maximum tape length depends on the wattage per metre of the LED tape being used. For example, if the tape draws 10W per metre, the driver can power up to 10 metres (100W total). Always check the tape specification and ensure the total load does not exceed 100W.
