Description

The Knightsbridge 1-way trailing edge pull cord dimmer switch is a ceiling-mounted rotary dimmer controlled by a 1.5m pull cord, housed in a 75mm diameter polished chrome body. It supports 10-150W incandescent or halogen loads and 5-100W LED loads, using trailing edge phase control to minimise flicker and buzzing with modern dimmable LED bulbs.

Designed for bedrooms, bathrooms and corridors where wall access is limited or where pull-cord operation is preferred for accessibility, the switch installs in place of a standard ceiling rose. Pulling the cord once switches the light on or off; pulling and holding the cord while on adjusts the brightness smoothly from full down to approximately 10% minimum. A built-in potentiometer allows fine adjustment of the dimming curve during installation to match different bulb types.

The polished chrome body is constructed from steel with an ABS base, carrying IP20 rating for dry indoor use. The 36mm height projects from the ceiling once installed, with the pull cord extending 1.5m from the base. The trailing edge circuit makes the switch compatible with electronic transformers and most dimmable LED drivers, though compatibility should be confirmed with the lamp manufacturer before pairing with specialist or high-output LED fittings.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing edge and leading edge dimming?

Trailing edge dimming uses a different phase control circuit designed specifically for electronic loads like LED drivers and electronic transformers. It reduces the electromagnetic interference and buzzing common with leading edge dimmers on LED bulbs, and typically provides smoother, flicker-free dimming at low brightness levels.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations only. In bathrooms it must be installed outside zones 1 and 2, typically on the ceiling in the centre of the room or in a corridor outside the bathroom door, with the pull cord accessible from within the bathroom.

How do you adjust the brightness?

Pull the cord once to switch the light on or off. To dim, pull and hold the cord while the light is on — brightness adjusts smoothly while the cord is held. Release the cord to stop at the desired level.

Will it work with all LED bulbs?

The switch works with most dimmable LED bulbs rated between 5W and 100W total load, but compatibility varies by bulb manufacturer and driver type. Check with the bulb manufacturer or test a single bulb before installing multiple bulbs on the circuit. Non-dimmable LEDs will not work with this switch.
