Description

The Knightsbridge 8301BC is a 1-way trailing edge pull cord dimmer switch with a brushed chrome faceplate, rated for 10-150W incandescent or 5-100W LED loads on 230V mains. The pull cord operates on a simple two-action mechanism: pull once to switch on or off, pull and hold to dim up or down through the brightness range.

Designed for ceiling-mounted installation where wall switches are impractical — bedroom pendants, bathroom lights (outside of zones), loft conversions, and attic rooms where the switch needs to hang at head height rather than sit at wall-plate level. The 1.5m cord length allows the switch body to mount in the ceiling void while the pull handle hangs at a convenient reach height. The trailing edge dimming technology reduces electrical noise and heat compared to older leading-edge dimmers, making it compatible with most modern dimmable LED bulbs and drivers.

The 75mm diameter housing is constructed from premium-grade steel with an ABS inner, finished in brushed chrome that matches coordinating sockets, plates and other Knightsbridge accessories in the same finish. The Class II double-insulated construction means no earth connection is required. The integrated potentiometer allows fine-tuning of the dimming curve during installation to achieve smooth fade without flicker or step-changes in brightness. IP20 rated for dry indoor locations only.

What's the difference between trailing edge and leading edge dimming?

Trailing edge dimmers cut the end of each AC waveform rather than the beginning, producing less electrical noise and heat. This makes them more compatible with modern dimmable LED bulbs and electronic transformers, reducing the buzzing and flickering common with older leading-edge dimmers.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means this dimmer is suitable only for dry indoor locations outside of bathroom zones. It cannot be installed within 60cm of a bath, shower, or basin (Zone 1 or 2).

How does the pull cord operate the dimmer?

Pull once to switch the light on or off. Pull and hold to gradually increase or decrease brightness — the dimmer cycles between bright and dim each time you hold the cord, so releasing when the desired level is reached sets that brightness.

Will it work with my LED bulbs?

The dimmer is rated for 5-100W of dimmable LED load. Check that your LED bulbs are marked as dimmable and compatible with trailing edge dimmers. Non-dimmable LEDs will flicker or fail to dim smoothly.
