Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang blanking plate covers unused or redundant electrical back boxes behind a matt black steel faceplate with rounded edges. The plate measures 87.75mm square with a 7.5mm projection from the wall once fitted, and includes a built-in gasket between the plate and back box to prevent dust ingress.

Designed for residential, commercial and hospitality installation where electrical boxes have been left in place after rewiring or room reconfiguration, the blanking plate provides a finished appearance without the need to remove back boxes from the wall. The matt black finish pairs with contemporary, industrial and minimalist interiors, and coordinates with matt black switch and socket ranges from Knightsbridge.

The rounded edge profile softens the plate's visual impact against the wall compared to square-edge alternatives, and the premium grade steel construction carries IP20 rating for dry indoor locations. The plate is certified to IEC 60670-1 and backed by a 25-year warranty. Installation requires a standard single-gang 25mm back box and two mounting screws (typically supplied with the back box).

Frequently Asked

What back box does this fit?

The blanking plate fits any standard single-gang 25mm minimum depth back box. The plate is fixed using two screws through the mounting holes into the lugs on the back box.

What is the built-in gasket for?

The gasket sits between the faceplate and the wall surface to prevent dust, debris and insects entering the back box. This is particularly useful when covering redundant boxes that no longer contain wiring.

Can it be painted over?

The matt black finish is factory-applied to the steel. While the plate could be painted if needed for a specific project, this would void the warranty. For other finishes, Knightsbridge produces this blanking plate in polished chrome, brushed chrome, white and other options.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The IP20 rating indicates protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no moisture protection. For outdoor or bathroom applications, a higher IP-rated blanking plate is required.
