Description
The Knightsbridge CL2191BC is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated at 10-200W for incandescent and halogen loads, or 5-150W for dimmable LED lamps. The brushed chrome faceplate has a rounded edge profile and a central rotary control knob that adjusts brightness, switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming modes, and resets the dimmer from the front plate without removing it from the wall.
Designed for residential installations where dimming control is required over a single lighting circuit from two switch positions, the dimmer supports both modern LED retrofit lamps and traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs. It ships pre-set to trailing-edge mode, which suits most dimmable LED bulbs and reduces the buzzing or flickering that can occur with leading-edge dimmers on electronic loads. The mode can be switched to leading-edge if the installation uses older magnetic-transformer halogen downlights or non-dimmable CFLs that require a different waveform.
Built-in overload and overheat protection automatically reduces output or shuts down the dimmer if the load exceeds its rating or if internal temperature rises beyond safe limits. An inrush current limiter protects the dimmer from the high initial current draw when incandescent or halogen lamps are first switched on. The steel faceplate measures 85.75mm square with a 7.5mm projection from the wall once fitted to a 25mm minimum back box. The brushed chrome finish is directionally brushed in vertical lines, giving a muted metallic appearance that reduces fingerprints compared to polished chrome.
The dimmer should not be used in mixed-load installations where different lamp brands, types or wattages share the same circuit, as the varying electrical characteristics can cause unstable dimming performance or reduce lamp lifespan. The IP20 rating limits the dimmer to dry indoor locations — it is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor use, or areas exposed to moisture.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?
Trailing-edge dimming (the default mode) suits most modern dimmable LED bulbs and reduces the risk of buzzing or flickering. Leading-edge dimming suits older magnetic-transformer halogen downlights and some incandescent loads. The dimmer ships pre-set to trailing-edge, but the mode can be switched using the front control knob.
Can this dimmer be used in a bathroom?
No. The IP20 rating limits the dimmer to dry indoor locations. It is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor installations, or areas where moisture is present.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate adds 7.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
Can I mix different LED bulb brands on the same dimmer?
Mixing different lamp brands, types or wattages on the same circuit can cause unstable dimming or reduce lamp lifespan. For best performance, use identical lamps from the same manufacturer on each dimmer circuit.
