Description

The Knightsbridge CS2191BC is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated at 10-200W for incandescent and halogen loads, or 5-150W for dimmable LED bulbs. The dimmer switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via a front-panel control knob, allowing it to adapt to different lamp types without rewiring. It ships pre-set in trailing-edge mode, optimised for modern LED bulbs.

Designed for bedrooms, living rooms, offices and hallways where lighting levels need to be varied throughout the day, the dimmer operates via a rotary push on/off action with continuous dimming as you turn the knob. The 2-way configuration allows the same light to be controlled from two switch positions in the room, making it suitable for larger spaces with entry points at opposite ends. The unit requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and fits standard UK single-gang apertures.

The brushed chrome faceplate is a flat square-edge design with a low 10.5mm projection from the wall once fitted. The matching brushed chrome dimmer cap integrates visually with the plate, giving a unified finish rather than a contrasting control element. The steel construction includes overload and overheat protection plus an inrush current limiter to handle the initial surge when lamps are switched on, reducing stress on both the dimmer and the bulbs.

The dimmer must be used with lamps of the same type and preferably the same brand and wattage on a single circuit to avoid interference and ensure smooth dimming performance. Mixing LED brands or combining incandescent with LED on the same dimmer can cause flickering or incomplete dimming range.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge (the factory default) suits most dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen bulbs. Leading-edge suits traditional incandescent and mains-voltage halogen. The dimmer ships in trailing-edge mode and can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob if needed for your specific lamp type.

Can I mix LED and incandescent bulbs on the same dimmer?

No. The dimmer must be used with lamps of the same type on a single circuit. Mixing incandescent with LED, or mixing different LED brands or wattages, can cause flickering, buzzing or incomplete dimming range.

What does 2-way mean?

2-way allows the same light to be controlled from two separate switch positions in the room, such as opposite ends of a hallway or bedroom. You need a second 2-way switch at the other location, wired in a standard 2-way lighting circuit.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once the dimmer is fitted.
