Metal Lux

We stock Metal Lux, an Italian lighting maker whose ranges are built around glass and crystal rather than around the fitting. A Metal Lux piece is usually a frame carrying many small decorative bodies (curled crystal ribbons, blown glass spheres, woven metal mesh), so the light is broken up and scattered rather than thrown from a single shade.

What Metal Lux make

The ranges divide neatly by what the glass is doing. Astro hangs curled crystal ribbons in columns and clusters, in fifteen glass colours across two metal finishes. Bolero suspends bubbles of mixed diameter from a round or square plate. Giro and Atom use uniform opal globes on slim arms. Impossible is a woven painted mesh with no glass at all, and Index is a plain LED tube. They are all one maker, but they are not one look.

Italian lighting, and what that means here

Italian lighting brands tend to sell on the glass and the proportion rather than on the technology, and Metal Lux sit squarely in that tradition. Most of the range takes a standard socket (G9, E27, GU10), so the lamp is yours to choose and yours to replace. Where a fitting carries an integrated LED, we say so on the product page and give the wattage, the colour temperature and the lumen output.

Choosing between the ranges

If you want sparkle, the crystal ranges scatter light hardest. If you want a quieter fitting, the opal globes give a soft even glow and read as a shape rather than a light source. For a long table or an island, look at the linear pieces: a straight bar rather than a round cluster. Drops are printed on every product page, and where a drop is fixed at manufacture we say that too, because it cannot be shortened on site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Metal Lux lighting made?
Metal Lux is an Italian maker. Where a specific detail is not published by the manufacturer we say so on the product page rather than assume it.

Do Metal Lux fittings come with bulbs?
Most take a standard socket and the lamps are not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature yourself. A few carry an integrated LED with no lamp to buy; the product page states which.

What is the difference between the crystal and glass ranges?
The crystal ranges use cut and curled crystal elements that break light into points. The glass ranges use blown or pressed glass (spheres, domes and tubes), which diffuse it more evenly.

Can the drop be shortened?
It depends on the fitting. Some hang on adjustable cable and can be set on site; others are fixed at manufacture. Every product page says which, with the measurement.

Are the finishes available across the whole range?
No. Each range offers its own metal finishes, and many add their own glass colours, which differ between ranges. The options on each product page are the ones that range actually offers.

How do I clean a crystal or glass fitting?
Switch off, let any lamp cool, then wipe with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which mark both the glass and the metal finish.
