Zuwena Large Etched Wall Clock - Antique Brass

A wall clock cast as a single disc of aluminium, 58cm across and 2cm deep, with no rim, no bezel and no glass over the face. The whole face is etched in fine straight lines running out from the centre to a plain smooth border at the edge, so the surface reads as a fan that changes tone as the light moves across it. There are no numerals and no hour markers: two slim brass batons, one for the hour and one for the minute, are the only things standing on it.

At 58cm across it is large enough to hold a wall on its own, and because it carries no numbers it reads from across a room as a disc first and a clock second. That suits a hallway, a kitchen wall above a run of units, or the space over a mantelpiece. It is 2cm deep and hangs flat, and it weighs 3.62kg, so the fixing has to carry it. The same clock is made at 38cm.

The disc is cast aluminium, moulded rather than pressed, and the grain of the casting is still there under the finish. The antique brass goes on after casting and the etching is worked in afterwards, so the colour sits deeper in the grooves than on the ridges between them and the face runs from a bright brass where the light strikes it to a dull bronze where it does not. It is for indoor use.
