Description

Our Yule tiered stand is a stoneware serving piece for the festive table: two round tiers, the upper one smaller, joined by a short red stem. It measures 22cm across and 13cm tall, a compact size that sits comfortably on a dining table or sideboard without crowding out the plates and glasses around it. Each tier has a low rim in glossy red, and the inside of both is decorated with sprigs of fir, little hearts, drums, candy canes and a woven heart. It is a cheerful, traditional look that suits a Christmas table from the first week of Advent to Twelfth Night.

Because the maker rates it for food, it is ready for exactly the job it looks built for: biscuits on the lower tier, mince pies or a few chocolates on the top, carried out with the coffee after Christmas dinner. Two levels keep a mix of treats sorted rather than piled on one plate, which is handy when guests want to see what is on offer. It works just as well at an Advent afternoon tea, on a buffet at a Christmas party, or on the kitchen counter through December with something sweet for whoever passes. Between servings it can stand empty as a decoration, or hold baubles and pine cones on a hall table.

The stand is 100% stoneware, a dense, sturdy ceramic, and at 1.068KG it feels substantial when you carry it to the table. The motifs are decals finished with handpainted details. It is not for the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven, so wash it by hand. For styling, set it slightly off centre among the other dishes, where its red rims pick up napkins, candles or ribbon in the same shade; the styling props shown are not included.
