Description
A glass jug in a dusty terracotta, 25cm tall and 10.5cm across, mouth blown and then worked all over with a hammered surface that dimples the whole body. The line runs from a heavy base up through a rounded belly, draws in sharply at the shoulder to a tall straight neck, and opens again at the lip. There is no handle; it is taken round the neck or the waist. The colour deepens towards the base, where the glass is thickest.
It holds 1,150ml, a little over a litre, and at 25cm it stands clear of the glasses on a laid table rather than sitting among them. The neck is narrow enough to slow the pour and the lip turns outward, so the last of it comes away instead of running down the side. It stands on a table with Yala tumblers in the same glass beside it.
The glass is recycled. Waste glass is gathered and rid of its impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown and hammered with traditional tools. The colour is carried in the glass itself rather than sprayed onto the outside, so it does not sit on the surface to be worn off. The Yala range runs to tumblers, highballs, wine glasses, gin glasses and champagne glasses in this same dusty terracotta, and to clear, sage green and indigo elsewhere.

1,150ml, a little over a litre.
Does it have a handle?
No. The neck is narrow enough to take in one hand and the lip is flared for pouring.
Is the colour painted on?
No. It is carried in the glass itself rather than sprayed onto the surface.
Is the glass recycled?
Yes. It is made from waste glass, melted down and mouth blown.
What else comes in this colour?
Tumblers, highballs, wine glasses, gin glasses and champagne glasses, all in the same dusty terracotta.
How do I look after it?
Give it a wash after each use, with a mild detergent, and do not let it stand soaking. Handle it with care.
