Yala Hammered Glass Jug - Clear

A glass jug, 25cm tall and 10.5cm across, with a full rounded body that draws in sharply to a tall narrow neck and opens again at a plain rolled rim. The whole surface is hammered: shallow dimples run across the body and up the neck, deeper and more irregular low down where the glass is thickest. There is no handle and no pulled spout, so it is held by the neck and poured from the rim whichever way round it is picked up.

It holds 1150ml, which is about four tumblers, so it goes round a table of four without a refill. The narrow neck sits in one hand even when the jug is full, and at 25cm tall it stands above the glasses on a laid table rather than among them. Filled with water, the dimpling reads quite differently than it does through the empty glass above it.

The glass is recycled stock, melted down from collected and washed waste glass and then blown by hand. The hammering is worked into the surface with traditional tools rather than moulded in, and the faint green cast where the glass runs thick is the recycled material showing through. Because every jug is blown, the depth of the dimpling and the exact line of the neck differ from one to the next. The Yala range runs to tumblers, highballs, wine glasses, champagne glasses and a carafe in the same hammered glass.

How much does it hold?

1150ml, which is about four tumblers.

Does it have a handle?

No. The body narrows to a tall neck that is held directly, and there is no pulled spout either, so it pours from the rim.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. Waste glass is collected, washed, crushed and melted down before it is blown.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

It will take a dishwasher, but hand washing is recommended: a mild dish soap, rinsed in clean water and left to dry naturally.

How big is it?

25cm tall and 10.5cm across.
