Description

The Yakira is a round wall mirror, 62cm across and 2cm deep, with a glass of 42cm. That leaves a border of roughly 10cm all the way round, which is a great deal wider than most mirror frames, and it slopes gently inwards from the outer edge down to the glass. The border is aluminium under an antique brass finish, and the surface carries the marks of the tools that worked it: shallow ridges running round the ring, pale gold where they catch and dropping to a darker olive-brown where they do not.

The width of the border is what decides where this hangs. The reflection is a 42cm circle set well inside a 62cm outline, so from across a room it reads as a brass ring on the wall and only becomes a mirror close to. That suits a hall, a landing or the wall above a chest or a fireplace, where something is wanted on the wall as much as a mirror is. It sits only 2cm off the plaster. At 4.95kg it needs a secure fixing rather than a picture hook.

The mirror is aluminium and glass. The border is finished one at a time, so the depth of the antique colour and the run of the tool marks differ from mirror to mirror and the ring is never quite even all the way round. The Yakira mirror is also made in a larger size.

Frequently Asked

How big is the glass?

42cm across, inside a mirror that measures 62cm overall.

How is it fixed to the wall?

It is wall hung. The size and the weight of it mean it needs a secure fastening rather than a hook.

What is it made from?

Aluminium with an antique brass finish, and mirror glass. It weighs 4.95kg.

Is there a larger one?

Yes. The Yakira mirror is made in a larger size as well as this one.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it over regularly with a microfibre cloth, working in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it.
