Description

The Yakira is a round wall mirror, 88cm across, in which a 57cm circle of glass sits at the bottom of a wide metal border. The border does not lie flat: it dishes inward from a raised outer rim down to the glass, so the mirror is set back within it. The metal is aluminium in an antique brass finish, mottled and textured across the dish and rubbed brighter along the outer rim.

At 88cm across it takes a wall of its own: above a console, over a mantelpiece, or on a landing with nothing else competing beside it. Only 57cm of that is glass, and the border is more than 15cm wide all round, so what it reflects is a good deal smaller than the object on the wall. It stands 2cm off the wall and weighs 9.6kg.

The frame is aluminium and the glass is mirror. The border is worked by hand, which is where the uneven texture across the dish comes from, so no two carry the same pattern of light and dark in the brass. The Yakira mirror is also made in a smaller size, 62cm across with a 42cm glass.

88cm across overall. It weighs 9.6kg.

57cm of the 88cm. The rest is the metal border.

Does it hang on a wall?

Yes. Given its scale and weight it needs secure fastening to a wall.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a microfibre cloth, working in a circular motion. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
