Description
This stoneware teapot is shaped like a fish. The spout is its open mouth, the knob on the lid is a raised dorsal fin, and a fanned tail sweeps out at the back. Painted scales run along its body, and a round fin sits on each side beneath a small painted eye. Every line of that decoration is painted by hand on a cream body. It holds 800ml and measures 24cm long, 13cm wide and 13.5cm tall, so it is a teapot for sharing rather than a single cup. It weighs 0.6KG.
Put it on the kitchen table for a slow weekend breakfast, or carry it out for an afternoon pot of tea with friends. The handle arches over the top and is tied to two raised lugs with woven bindings, so your hand sits above the pot as you lift and pour. It is made for brewing and serving tea, and the fish shape makes it a cheerful present for a tea lover and a good fit for a kitchen with a coastal feel. Between pots of tea it is just as happy on an open kitchen shelf.
Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic that holds heat well, which suits a pot left to brew. Because the decoration is painted by hand, the brushwork varies a little from one teapot to the next. It does not go in the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven, so wash it by hand and dry it before the lid goes back on. To warm it before brewing, swirl a little hot water from the kettle inside and pour it away. For the table, stand it on a woven runner with a couple of plain stoneware cups and turn the tail out towards your guests.

Frequently Asked
What is the fish teapot made of?
It is made of 100% stoneware, with the decoration painted by hand on a cream body, so the brushwork varies slightly from one teapot to another.
How much tea does it hold?
It holds 800ml, which makes it a teapot for sharing a pot at the table rather than brewing a single cup.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. It is not for the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven, so wash it by hand and let it dry fully before putting the lid back on.
How big is the teapot?
It measures 24cm long from mouth to tail, 13cm wide and 13.5cm tall, and it weighs 0.6KG.
How does the lid come off?
The lid lifts straight off, and the raised fin on top doubles as its knob, so you hold the fin to lift it when adding tea and hot water.
Can I brew and serve tea in it?
Yes. It is approved for food use and made for brewing and serving tea. Warm it first with a little hot water from the kettle for the best brew.
