Description

Wen is a Christmas tree drawn in iron: a slim central stem with tiers of curved arms that sweep out and turn up at the tips into small hooks, each finished with a little ball, under a star at the top. It is made of 100% iron in a lacquered gold finish and stands 80cm tall and 41cm across on a round foot. The gold has a soft, aged depth rather than a mirror shine, so it looks like a piece brought down from the loft each year. It works as a decoration in its own right and as a hanging stand at the same time.

Hang it with baubles, small ornaments and bows of ribbon and it becomes a tree for a spot where a real one will not fit: the corner of a hallway, beside a chair in the sitting room, at the end of a bench in a bay window. At 80cm tall it can stand on the floor and still be seen, or sit on a sideboard or a wide console table where it rises well above everything else on it. Because the arms are open wire, whatever you hang on it takes centre stage, and the bare frame looks finished enough to leave undressed before the baubles come out.
