Vivielle Cream Floral Stoneware Bowls 13cm Set of 4 - Multi

This is a set of four stoneware bowls, each hand-painted with a little garden of flowers, tulips and leaves, drawn in fine line and filled with glossy glaze. What makes them their own is the handle: a small bird, decorated with sprigs of flowers of its own, sits against the side of each bowl and gives you something to hold. Each bowl is 13cm across and 8cm tall and holds 720ml, a generous size that settles the question of soup bowl or cereal bowl: it does both comfortably.

The handle is what turns these into proper soup bowls: you can carry one to the sofa on a cold evening, or lay the table for four with a pot of soup in the middle. They suit a weekend breakfast of porridge and fruit, a bowl of noodles, chilli or a hearty stew, and the multicoloured pattern brings a cheerful look to a kitchen table or a dresser shelf. As a set of four they make a thoughtful present for someone setting up a first home, or for anyone who likes flowers and birds on the breakfast table.

The bowls are made entirely of stoneware, a dense ceramic that holds heat well, and the pattern is painted by hand. They are suitable for food, they go in the dishwasher, and they can go in the microwave and the oven, so a portion of leftover stew can be reheated, or a small crumble baked, and brought to the table in the same bowl. That makes them everyday bowls rather than ones kept for best. To style them, keep them on an open shelf with the handles all turned the same way, so the four birds line up in a row; against plain linen and simple plates, the pattern does all the work.
