Description

The Vivan is a super king bed frame in solid mango wood, 189cm wide and 215cm long overall, standing 110cm at the headboard. The headboard is cut with fine horizontal grooves that run the width of the board, carved one at a time by hand, and its top edge curves rather than running straight across. The side rails and the foot rail carry the same grooving. The frame is rated to a maximum weight of 425kg.

A super king frame needs 189cm of wall and 215cm of floor, with room to pass on at least one side, so it suits a bedroom that can give up most of one wall to it. At 110cm the headboard stands well above the pillows, which puts a solid back behind anyone sitting up in bed, and it leaves room for a bedside table of normal height on either side without the two competing. The same grooved bed is made in king, at 159cm wide.

The frame is mango wood throughout, sealed rather than painted, so the grain and the tone run differently from bed to bed and the depth of each groove varies across the headboard and the rails. The Vivan bedroom range also holds a wardrobe, a pantry cupboard, a chest of drawers and a bedside table in the same grooved form. The mattress is not included.

Frequently Asked

What size mattress does it take?

A super king. The frame itself measures 189cm wide and 215cm long overall, so allow for that rather than for the mattress alone.

Is a mattress included?

No. The frame is sold on its own.

How much weight will it hold?

425kg is the maximum.

Does it come in another size?

Yes. The same grooved bed is made in king, which is 159cm wide.

How do I look after it?

The wood is sealed, and a soft dry cloth over the surfaces lifts dust and moisture. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly, always worked in the direction of the grain, and harsh chemicals and abrasive materials are to be kept away. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight, which fades the tone, and away from extremes of heat and humidity, which can crack and split solid timber.
