Description

The Vemula is a lantern 50cm tall and 13cm square, built as a slim glazed column: four glass panels held in a metal frame, divided by cross bars into stacked panes, standing on a small stepped base. A tall arched handle rises over the top and is fixed solidly to the frame. The metal carries an antique brass finish that sits darker in the corners and along the bars, where it has gathered.

A pillar candle stands on the floor of the lantern with a long run of glass above it, so the flame shows as a point of light low in the column rather than filling it. The small stands beside the large on a ledge, reading as a pair of different heights. The handle takes the whole weight, so the lantern carries in one hand. At 13cm square it stands on a hearth, a windowsill or the floor beside a door without taking up much room.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass. The antique brass finish is worked by hand and wears differently along the edges and the bars on every lantern. A taller Vemula is made at 70cm. The candle is not included, and the lantern is for indoor use.

It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it and keep it out of reach of children.
